Greek and Roman Egypt

The subject examines the profound changes the culture of ancient Egypt underwent during the period from 332 BC to the end of the fourth century AD. It will focus upon the Hellenisation of Egypt after the conquest by Alexander the Great in 332 BC and the role played by Alexandria, the impact of being incorporated into the Roman Empire after 30 BC, the closing of the ancient temples causing the disappearance of traditional pharaonic culture, and the development of Christianity.

Assessment:

Written (4000 words): 60% * Examinations (2 hours): 40%
