Psychology - human development

8 points * Three 1-hour lectures, one 2-hour workshop per week * First semester * Caulfield/Peninsula * Prerequisites: APY1010 and APY1020

1. Physiological performance: sensing and moving, rhythms of the brain, emotion and motivation, learning and memory behaviour disorders. 2. Human development: psychosocial stages (Erikson), cognitive stages (Piaget), moral development, learning intelligence, language development, prenatal development, life span development. 3. Research design and analysis: descriptive versus inferential statistics, hypothesis testing, matched student's t, independent student's t, categorical data and contingency tables, Chi square and Fishers exact, strength of association and McNemar's test, Pearson's correlation, Spearman's correlation, non parametric testing, selection of appropriate tests.

Assessment

Examinations (5 hours): 60% * Two laboratory reports: 30% * Seminar presentation: 10%
