Feminism crossculturally

The subject is about the theoretical and political problems in studying and writing about women's and feminist issues across cultural boundaries. These boundaries are constructed in diverse ways through gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, religion, nationality, as well as historical factors such as colonialism. Topics are examined from the perspective of immigrant, `third world', and postcolonial critics of `Western' feminists, as well as those of `Western' feminists who engage in crosscultural research. Topics include female circumcision; feminism, Islam and women; ethnographic representation; the state the reproductive control.

Assessment

Seminar paper (2000 words): 40% * Essay (4000 words): 60%
